A description of each position follows.

Infant/Toddler Teacher

Summary

We are seeking experienced, degreed, and passionate Infant/Toddler teachers who will cultivate each child's natural desire to learn by recognizing and capitalizing on everyday "teachable moments." Staff at Jubilee JumpStart will work closely with parents and other family members as appropriate in bridging the child's experience to home. They will also work closely with home visitors who seek to provide assistance to families in their caregiving role. Teachers will be supported in their work by the executive director and will have unique and in-depth professional development experiences centering on curriculum implementation, attention to the inner experience of children in care, and reflection on their roles in relationship to the other important adults in children's lives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, create, and implement a developmentally appropriate bilingual curriculum for children ages 6 weeks to five years of age (infants, toddlers and preschoolers) that reflects the wide variety of cultures and ethnic groups represented in the classroom.
  • Meet the physical, social, emotional, language, and cognitive needs of each child (infants, toddlers and preschoolers) based upon the mission, goals, objectives and the curriculum of Jubilee JumpStart.
  • Involve parents in the classroom in meaningful ways that demonstrates the belief that parents are the principal influence on their child's education and development.
  • Assist in ensuring parent involvement and/or awareness in program planning through regular open communications, center parent meetings, parent newsletters, parent conferences and home visits.
  • Collaborate and work in a team environment with other staff in developing plans for activities and strategize on program development and implementation.
  • Complete individual child developmental screenings and individual learning plans, and use appropriate assessment tools to inform parents, partner- teachers, and program staff to better serve the needs of the individual child and family and to improve program delivery.
Skills and Experience
  • Three years experience in an Early Childhood setting and demonstrated capacity in planning educational experiences, observing children, conducting developmental assessments, and implementing a curriculum.
  • Degree in Early Childhood Education and /or closely related field. (Associate Degree in ECE or a Child Development Associate Credential and Certificate will also be considered based on experience and references.)
  • Knowledge of child development including typical and atypical language, cognitive, motor, social, and self-help skills development.
  • Knowledge of District of Columbia Department of Health licensing regulations; NAEYC accreditation standards, and Early Childhood Development standards in the areas of health, safety and nutrition.
  • Experience implementing the Creative Curriculum and / or Learning Games, a plus.
  • Bilingual, and /or proficient in Spanish reading, writing, and speaking, a plus.
  • Ability to be flexible, reflective, work with a diverse team, and treat all people with respect and dignity;
  • Enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated.

Associate Director for Family Support

Summary

The incumbent will coordinate the family support component of Jubilee JumpStart's program, which aims to assist parents and extended family in the care and education of the children enrolled in JumpStart and in addressing problems that inhibit their ability to provide such care and education. The incumbent will also serve as the primary Family Partner for some families. The incumbent will ensure that the subject activities are completed well and within the vision of Jubilee JumpStart.

The program will use Learning Games and other methods and materials to

  1. nurture the relationship between the Jubilee JumpStart child and her/his parents and other family members,
  2. support the family's capacity to help the child develop in a timely and appropriate way in physical, social/emotional, cognitive, linguistic and spiritual dimensions, and
  3. assist families to obtain needed services from other organizations and individuals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. In coordination with the Executive Director, assist in the evolving design of the family support program. Assess development of the program, communicating to the Executive Director any concerns and issues as they arise.
  2. Attend and participate in scheduled seminars, conferences and trainings to build relationships with community and identify and address needs.
  3. Lead and coordinate a team, including three Family Partners and the incumbent, in the conduct of weekly home visits with the parents and children of Jubilee JumpStart, and (where appropriate) with the extended families of the children.

    1. Effectively orient members of the team to organizational, divisional and programmatic requirements, standard operating policies and procedures. Identify and address potential legal or physical hazards.
    2. Conduct weekly supervision with each Family Partner. Effectively advocate for members of the team.
    3. Coordinate Family Partner collaboration with center-based staff in conducting assessments, determining needs of children and families, and developing plans to address the needs. Coordinate Family Partner participation in weekly work sessions with center-based staff facilitated by members of the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis. In the work sessions, staff will review family and child needs and refine plans to address them.
    4. Provide back-up to Family Partners in the event that they are unable to work with a family, which may include being on call at night or on weekends. Maintain a tickler system to assist Family Partners in tracking all services provided.
    5. Ensure that the required number of home visits is conducted on a monthly basis, that all documentation is completed accurately and in a timely fashion, and that needed performance improvement is accomplished.
    6. Balance workloads according to the established model to ensure quality and productivity.
    7. Provide statistical information to the Executive Director in a timely manner and informs the Executive Director of any changes in caseloads or family assignments promptly.
  4. Lead and coordinate the professional development of Family Partners. The professional development will include training in the Abecedarian Project structures and curricula, in the Creative Curriculum, and in a deeper understanding of themselves and of the families and staff with whom they work.

    1. Identify group and individual training needs and develops plans for the group and for each staff member.
    2. Conduct shadow home visits of Family Partners with, at minimum, two to three home visits every six months.
    3. Evaluate each team member's performance within required timeframe and coach team members toward the achievement of project objectives.
  5. Coordinate the provision of parenting training for families and work with the Washington Center for Psychoanalysis in the formation of support groups for family members.
  6. Establish relationships with organizations that will provide needed services for families.

  • Flexibility - Willingness to be flexible with work schedule to participate in weekend and/or evening duties as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION

Master's degree in a clinical field, such as social work, psychology, counseling.

EXPERIENCE

Experience in conducting and/or directing a home visiting program is a significant advantage. Experience that reflects the competencies listed above and the ability to accomplish the responsibilities of the position is essential.

Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out moderately-complex, multi-step instructions and make appropriate independent decisions as necessary

Physical Demands – Regularly required to stand; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to thirty (30) pounds.
