Connecting at the Intersection Retreat

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

It was an honor to be in the room at the Intersection Retreat hosted by JJS parent and board member, David Epstein and generous JJS supporter, Brian Levenson this summer. The Intersection Retreat brought a dozen bestselling authors like Dan Pink, Amanda Ripley, and Julie Lythcott-Haims together with a dozen leaders from the sports world like Baltimore Ravens president Sashi Brown, and Gregg Berhalter, head coach of the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team for a little recreation and reflection on their work as people coaches and motivators.

Through sponsorships, the event raised $60,000 which was evenly split between Jubilee JumpStart and the nonprofit Peace Players. Dominique Spencer, Jubilee JumpStart Director of Education Services, attended part of the retreat to personally thank sponsors for their generous financial contributions. She shared and gained deeper insight into how the work done by leaders in sports and business aligns with the work we do. That work is helping people get to the next level.

Dominique left "inspired by the broader approaches and various methods of accomplishing the mission that was shared by the leaders present." In her own words, "I felt connected to the greater world as we exchange stories and ideas about how what seems like simple fun [like childcare and sports] has a profound impact on building up people."

"I was struck by the fact that many of the central challenges faced by sports leaders are similar to those faced daily by JJS teachers," David remarked. "Both are cultivating young talents, and need to help them reach the right emotional setting do what's best for their development. Except I think JJS teachers have it tougher since their charges are still learning to speak".

We are grateful to David and Brian for choosing Jubilee JumpStart as a charity of choice for this event. Many thanks to the following sponsors for their generous contributions:
