March Into Reading -Spring 2022
March Into Reading
What is March Into Reading?
Every March, we bring our entire community together to support families in making reading to children at home school an important part of their daily routine. This year the experience will be virtual, but we're sure it will be as much fun as always. Keep reading to find out how you can share in the experience.
JJS Parents and Family Members
Parents, join the challenge and help your child win the prize for the most minutes read in the month of March. Here's how:
-
Commit to reading to your child for at least 15 minutes a day. You'll need to read at least 75 minutes in March to contend for the prize.
-
Earn points by completing and submitting your reading logs (below) each week.
-
Earn more points by tuning into a Bedtime Story. A new story will be posted to our Storybook Library each Monday, beginning February 28th.
-
You can add to your points by zooming in to your child's classroom to read to your child and their classmates. Contact your child's teacher to schedule a session.

Friends, Community Partners and Volunteers
March Into Reading is a great opportunity for our Friends and Community Partners to connect with us! You can join us as a JumpStar Reader to read virtually to one (or two) of our classes. We love seeing your face. Our children love sharing storytime with you. And we're sure a Zoom meeting with a few of our little ones will add something extra special to your weekday routine. Click the yellow button below to sign-up.
Don't have children's books on hand? Create a free account at OpenLibrary.org and check out an eBook to share during your session(s). You can get recommendations, assistance signing up, or answers to your questions by emailing Danica.
Our Spring Literacy Celebration and Read-a-thon
We close the book on March Into Reading with an Hour of LIVE (virtually) Reading Fun! Join us to meet and hear engaging stories read by Councilmember Robert C White, Jr., The young authors from FLOC.org, and Mother of Black Girl Magic, CaShawn Thompson. We will also have guest alumnus Wendell Pope to share one of his favorites. You won't want to miss it.
JJS Families, stay connected through Remind to receive the link to join us Saturday morning, March 26th. Can't make it at 11 AM? Drop in anytime during the hour, stay for 15 minutes or more to be eligible for a chance to win a special participation prize.
If you're not connected through Remind and would like to join us, please email Danica or Patty. See our agenda below:
