A Bright Start to Summer and the Future for our Pre-K Graduates!

Updated: Jul 18, 2023

Friday, June 14th, was a big milestone for our Pre-K Tigers and their families—Advancement Time! The event was a special occasion to honor the children who will be advancing to kindergarten in the fall. These children have successfully met the District of Columbia Early Learning Standards (DC ELS) for Pre-K, thanks to the support and guidance of our teachers, families, and partners in the community.

Our Pre-K graduates have demonstrated their readiness for kindergarten and beyond by meeting these standards. Our Jubilee JumpStart's main curriculum, Teaching Strategies/Creative Curriculum, is aligned with DC ELS. It helps our infants, toddlers, two-year-olds, and preschoolers achieve readiness by age 5 when they begin elementary school. For the past 10+ years, our children have reached the developmental milestones for school readiness, and June 14th was an opportunity to recognize the current students.

The celebration was held at our center, and we were honored to have DC Ward 1 Councilwoman Brianne Nadeau in attendance to show her support. The event included a special presentation from the children, and each child was recognized for the unique qualities they brought to their classroom community. The teachers were recognized for their hard work and sacrifices, and families, friends, and children danced, sang, and laughed together.

Summer Camp We are thrilled to see so many graduates remaining with us through summer camp, which began on June 20th. This year’s summer camp has been an absolute blast so far! We are excited to welcome back Pre-K field trips, and our first trip was a visit to see a complimentary puppet show at Wolf Trap Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods. The children had such a fantastic time that they’re already looking forward to another Wolf Trap show toward the end of summer camp.

See you at our End of Summer Family Reunion Picnic!

We are so grateful for your generosity and enthusiasm and continued financial support that enables us to provide dependable, quality early childhood education to our community. We can't think of a better way to wrap up the summer than our annual Family Reunion Picnic on August 11th at Walter Pierce Park. This event is open to all JJS staff and families - past, present, and future - as well as our partners in the community. We hope to see you there for a day of fun, food, and celebration!
